Hunting Ontario Canada

ont_hunting21Discover Ontario Deer Hunting!

Eastern Ontario has long been known as a “hidden gem” for trophy whitetails.

We have three properties that we lease and manage for mature bucks where we maintain a minimum 8 point rule allowing our bucks to reach at least 2.5 years of age before harvest. Our goal is to shoot mature bucks of 3.5 years or older but rather than asking our clients to be proficient at aging deer, we simply stick to an antler restriction of  a “GOOD” 8 point or bigger. To date, our clients and I have been very happy with this system.

The Ontario hunts are either semi or fully guided depending on what you’re looking for.

Semi guided means the stands are set, shooting lanes cleared and mineral licks and baiting has been done for the hunters well in advance. When hunters arrive in camp, we will show you all the stands and provide you a map of the area. Bait will also be provided to last you the duration of the week. Other than being available to help you if required and checking in every few days, the hunters will be on their own to get to and from the stands, track and clean deer etc.

Our fully guided hunts include a guide to assist in transporting clients to and from the stands, deciding which stands will be hunted, tracking, gutting and hanging deer etc. Our guides can even sit in the stand and call or video for the hunter if desired. Whatever experience you are looking for or if you think you need a hand, we’re there to do what we can to make your trip enjoyable and successful! Both properties are within a 15 minute drive of towns where all amenities can be found. Our locations are in Wildlife Management Units 64A & 67 approximately 45 minutes southwest of Ottawa or 1 hour north of the Canadian/American border at the Alexandria Bay/Thousand Islands bridge.

Property #1- Montague twp, Lanark Cty. 500 Acres

ont_hunting14This property is mainly a cedar swamp with old cattle pastures on the front quarter of the property.

We have a mix of permanent tree stands, ground blinds and ladder stands strategically placed throughout the property. This property really turns on when the temperatures drop and snow hits the ground as it is a known yarding area for the surrounding population of deer. Our biggest buck taken on this property was a 155″ twelve point. Several 8-10 point bucks have been harvested in the 120″-150″ range.

The camp is rustic but comfortable and sleeps 6. A wood stove for heat, generator for electricity and propane bbq and cookstove are included. We limit this property to two groups per year with the most popular times being the rifle hunt during the second week of November and the muzzleloader season during the first week of December.

Property #2- Drummond, twp, Lanark Cty. 450 Acres

ont_hunting9Our property in Drummond twp is a farm comprised of two parcels. The “front 200” is where the farm house is located. Approximately 100 acres is croplands where corn, soybean and alfalfa are rotated depending on the year. There is a softwood swamp as well as a sugar bush located on this section with 3 stand locations to cover this area.

The “back 250” is roughly a 3-5 minute drive from the front lot. The back portion also has some fields but is more softwood swamp and edge habitat along a drainage system. The hunt camp is located on this “back” portion and includes a wood stove for heat, propane stove/oven, bbq and generator for electricity. 2014 was the first year I put clients on this property and a beautiful 163″ buck was taken! This property is prone to more hunting pressure around it but is truly the place for a chance at an Eastern Ontario trophy! As with the Montague property, we limit the harvest of bucks to mature 8 points and bigger only. A maximum of two groups per year will be allowed to hunt this property with peak times also being the second week of November and first week of December.

Depending on availability, we accept rifle, archery and muzzleloader hunters from the second week of November to the end of December. Please give us a call if looking for a quality hunt in Eastern Ontario!

A buck we called "Mongo" (for hu"mongo"us) has fallen to Chad Hayden of Vermont. I've watched Mongo for 4 years and estimate him to be 7.5 years old. Congrats to Chad, one happy hunter equals a very happy outfitter! Shout out to Valley Guiding & Outfitting as we began using their food plot and mineral products this year. Mongo was taken over one of the Mineral licks and had been seen earlier feeding in the food plots. ... See MoreSee Less
